The Mayans Say This Is The End? What To Do Now.

We are coming up on just about two weeks before the end of the Mayan calendar – December 21, 2012 – and as some see it the end of the world. I see it differently – don’t all calendars repeat? Whichever way you look at it, you can pose the same question – What should I do now?

12If it is to be the end of world, if you believe that, wouldn’t you take the next two weeks to go out with a bang? If that is your belief wouldn’t you do the same thing many people experience when diagnosed with a terminal illness? But why do we have to wait for that situation to come up? We can use any time to take stock and make sure we have done what we wanted to, especially when there is some kind of deadline involved. Before the end of a decade – be it calendar or life, the end of school, the end of your career (retirement), or any other you have the chance to assess and see if you did everything you wanted to or should do. Did you take all the classes you wanted to fulfill your career needs or an elective to try out something different? Have you seen and done everything in your community before you have to move to another one? Did you do what you wanted to in your 30’s or 40’s or before you retire? The questions are endless.

If it is to be a new calendar, a new age, then who are you going to be in the new era? Again we can use any milestone such as when your new life starts with a marriage, new child, new house, new job, and so on. You have the opportunity to change, and change for the better. What did you do in your old job that you can do better with a fresh star and no preconceptions in your new one?  How can you make your marriage the best relationship you have whether friend or family? What do you need to change in order to be the best parent you can be? Again I could go on and on with examples to ask.

Even if you don’t believe anything special related to the date, it is a special time of year for most people. It is the end of the calendar year, and many religions celebrate major holidays this month.

However you look at this time, as an end or a beginning, or even just the end of one year and going into another (speaking of that start prepping your resolutions – or non-resolutions) use this at once festive and pensive time to celebrate and evaluate who you are and who you could be.
