88Nine RadioMilwaukee, a Milwaukee community radio station that is a unique non-profit organization providing public media services to the greater Milwaukee area and around the world via the Internet, needs the support of its listeners and the community it serves. To this end they are holding a unique fundraiser on February 2nd called SoundBites.
SoundBites, hosted by and at the man-friendly Iron Horse Hotel (reviewed here), will feature DJs spinning new music along with fantastic food by Participating Restaurants: Bartolotta Restaurant Group, Trocadero Gastrobar, Firefly Urban Bar & Grillm Pastiche Bistro & Wine Bar, Hinterland Erie Street Gastropub, Ryan Braun’s Graffito, La Merenda, and Umami Moto.
For $125 from 5:30pm – 11pm, you get to hang out in an amazing atmosphere with great music and some of the best food in Milwaukee.
88Nine is well deserving of the support. Their music is ‘good’ in more ways than one, it is enjoyable and inspiring but their organization itself does ‘good’. Besides being an independent radio station that chooses its own format without the heavy hand of a media congolomerate, it also is a Milwaukee-centric organization. They say their goal is to: ‘captivate, entertain, educate and inspire’ and ‘champion diversity and encourage community engagement’. And besides playing independent, progressive music of the rock and urban genres they play at least one track by a Milwaukee artist every hour.
Personally, though I rarely listen to the radio, if I do listen to a music station it will inevitably be 88Nine due to their mix of music as well the culture they support in Milwaukee.
If you are inclined to help out 88Nine, but are unable to do so via this event, you can donate any amount at their web site’s donation page. If you donate $88.9 or higher you get various gifts, but the best gift is knowing you support an organization that supports us back via inspiring music and community relations.
