Greater Milwaukee Native Tests Latest Jet

Lt. Colonel Fred Schenk of Cedarburg – a former High School classmate – performed the first at-sea vertical landing of the F-35B Joint Strike Fighter, a jet expected to replace current jets with its vertical landing capabilities. Schenk has undergone intense training in various jets to get the opportunity to be the first to test the Harrier-like hover landing of the F-35B. Testpilots like Schenk help designers iron out the kinks before releasing new jets to the general military. They take the risks of an unproven machine before it gets onto mass production. More on Schenk, the F-35B, and the test can be read at jsonline.

I am proud to call Schenk a former Cedarburgian and class mate.

A video of his landing can be seen here.
